Among the entries is last years champion, Chris Windom. The Canton, IL native will again drive for Goacher Racing as he tries to win back-to-back 500's and his third 500 overall. Missing from the list but also anticipated to run is the 2013 and 2014 race winner Jacob Wilson driving for Wilson Brothers Racing. Wilson finished 4th in the race in 2015.

Unfortunately, one driver missing from this years race will be the late Tony Elliott who was killed in a small plane crash in October with three others in South Carolina. The Warsaw, IN native had started in 22 Little 500's including every race since 1998. Elliott had led over 1,000 laps and tallied four podium finishes. He had also taken one pole for the event, that coming in 2009.

The week will kick off on Tuesday with the first practice session followed by a second on Wednesday and a third on Thursday morning. Qualifying for the pole will take place on Thursday afternoon. Friday morning will feature yet another practice session before the remainder of the field is set that afternoon. A complete time table as well as prices for all events can be found in our Guide to the Little 500.

Saturday will feature a number of events leading up to that evenings 68th Annual Pay Less Little 500 presented by UAW-GM including the Little 500 Hall of Fame induction as well as chances for fans to meet their favorite drivers during an autograph session.

Also worth taking note of is Anderson's Little 500 Festival. A link to a poster containing information about all events taking place for the festival can be found here.

Concerning safety during the week, the Anderson Police Department will be taking part in Operation Pull Over so please plan accordingly and have a designated driver lined up to make it home safely following any event at the track.

King of Kokomo Results (May 15)

Kokomo Speedway

As always, the Kokomo Speedway did not disappoint on Sunday night as sprint car drivers put on a spectacular show in season opening King of Kokomo event at the popular Indiana bullring.

Cullman, Alabama's Kevin Thomas Jr. was crowned king after surviving a spirited chase by Chris Windom at the helm of the Baldwin #5.

Bryan Clauson, who drove up to Kokomo after working with his IndyCar team at Indianapolis Motor Speedway earlier in the day finished third with Tyler Courtney and "The Throttle" Shane Cottle rounding out the top five.

Kevin Thomas Jr. led for the entire race after starting on the front row alongside Jarett Andretti. After gaining an early lead the field saw a red flag as Dave Darland, who had started 8th, got airborne and came to rest upside down and hung up on the fence. After a few tense minutes Darland climbed from his car and his car was towed to the garage along with Justin Grant in the Phillips #71p whom also got caught up in the incident.

After the restart Thomas Jr, followed by Windom went to the top where he stayed for the rest of the race. Behind the duo the battle for position was intense as Clauson, Courtney and Andretti battled for the third spot for a number of laps before Clauson and Courtney were able to get by. Andretti eventually faded to 8th where he would finish.

Sprints will return to action at Kokomo Speedway next Sunday night.

Logan Schuchart was tonight's quick qualifier with a time of 11.526, a track record for the speedway in it's short history as a dirt track.

WoO's decision to move up their feature was a good one as the rain started as midgets ran with the third class, UMP modifieds, never making it to the track.

World of Outlaws gear up for three Indiana shows in May

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will embrace a month dear to the Hoosier state when it comes to motorsports. The series will visit three different Indiana tracks this month, here is a look at each event.

The series will begin its Indiana tour on Friday, May 13 when it visits Plymouth Speedway for the first time in track history.

The track had expected to host the series in October of last year but delays with the ongoing improvements being made at the facility caused the event to be postponed until this year.

Saturday, May 14 will see the series shift south to Haubstadt and Tri-State Speedway, where we saw a spirited battle last year between Brady Bacon and Paul McMahan. McMahan eventually triumphed in the closing laps winning his second feature in as many years at TSS.

Other recent winners at TSS include: Tim Kaeding, Craig Dollansky and Sammy Swindell.

Joining the World of Outlaws that night will be the UMP modifieds. To reserve tickets for that event call 812-768-6025.

The third and final series event in Indiana during the month of May will be on the high banks of the Lawrenceburg Speedway. The event will take place on Monday, May 30 (Memorial Day).

Paul McMahan picked up the win last year at The Burg. Prior to last years event, Donny Schatz had won the previous two series events at the track.

To purchase tickets for the event visit the track's website https://lawrenceburgspeedway.com/

Entering the month of May, Brad Sweet leads the championship points race by 97 points over Larson Marks driver Shane Stewart. Rounding out the top five in points are Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana and Daryn Pittman.

Sweet has tallied five wins so far in 2016 along with Schatz. The series' next event will be tonight at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois.

Mother Nature wins on Sunday

Wet weather has once again forced multiple tracks to cancel their programs on Sunday. Terre Haute Action Track, scheduled to host the Midwest Sprint Car Series (MSCS), has cancelled that event. It has been rescheduled for August 14.

Kokomo Speedway's opener has also been postponed once again due to the facilities' wet grounds. The speedway has shifted the King of Kokomo event to May 15.

In other news, Lawrenceburg Speedway's King of the Midwest event that was cancelled on Saturday night has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 14.
