Wednesday's event rescheduled

Because of adverse weather on Wednesday the racing portion of the Bryan Clauson Celebration of Life has been rescheduled for Friday, September 2.

This event will be taking the place of the "Gas City Shootout" that was slated to take place that evening at Gas City I-69 Speedway.

Sprint Car Smackdown V Preview

On the slate this week is four exciting nights of racing at the legendary Kokomo Speedway in what has become one, if not thee largest non-wing sprint car event in the country. Here is a closer look at what is going on this week.

Sunday, August 21

The Kokomo Speedway campgrounds open to fans and teams. Please use the designated areas.

Tuesday, August 23

Load-in day for race teams.

Wednesday night pit passes and 3-day Smackdown tickets available from 7-8 pm at Kokomo Speedway ticket office.

Wednesday, August 24

Racing opens up with a special event on Wednesday evening when Kokomo Speedway will host Bryan Clauson's Celebration of Life.

A group has also come together to create the #GYATK Challenge in honor of Clauson. The highest finishing driver making his first ever start at Kokomo will pick up $1,000 on top of what they earn from the purse that evening while the second highest finisher will collect an additional $500. The third highest will pick up a new right rear.

As more fans donate the purse for the evenings event will also increase. The hard charger for the evening's feature event will grab $630.

As an incentive to get more cars and drivers into the pits, Allstar Performance has graciously paid for every drivers pit pass for the evening.

No points towards the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Championship will be awarded on Wednesday evening.

Thursday, August 25

Thursday serves at Qualifying Night #1 of the Sprint Car Smackdown V.

Entering Thursday's action it is the 2014 USAC sprint car champion Brady Bacon who holds the series points lead over defending champion Robert Ballou. Chase Stockon sits third in the standings followed by Thomas Meseraull and Dave Darland.

Thursday will be the first of two qualifying nights. Together, the nights will determine points locking in the top eight drivers into Saturday night's feature while the others will be split into qualifying heat races on Saturday. A full breakdown of the format can be found in the guide.

Robert Ballou picked up the win on the first qualifying night in 2015. Hornets will join the sprint cars for the evening.

Chase Stockon won the Friday portion of the Sprint Car Smackdown IV in 2015. Thunder cars will also be in action with the USAC sprint cars.

Weekend Preview (August 19-20)

Friday, August 19

Bloomington Speedway

There are just two races left to the decide who will be the 2016 Bloomington Speedway track champion, one of those races will take place Friday night.

Jeff Bland Jr. leads defending champion Brady Short by five points entering Friday after a strong runner-up finish last weekend behind Kevin Thomas Jr.

The 305 RaceSavers, super stocks, hornets and modifieds will also be in action on Friday.

Saturday, August 20

Lawrenceburg Speedway

After taking last weekend off, the Kelsey Chevrolet sprints return to the high banks of the Burg on Saturday night for the Dick Gaines Memorial.

Jordan Kinser won the most recent event back on August 6 while Jarett Andretti has a firm hold on the lead in the track points standings, his nearest competitor being Joss Moffatt who sits 140 points back.

UMP modifieds, pure stocks and hornets will join the sprint cars. We plan to be there for live updates on Saturday.

Rain washed out last weekends race at LPS but the sprint cars are back this weekend in Putnamville where the track will also host kids bike races Saturday.

Shane Cockrum still holds a commanding lead in the track championship standings. AJ Hopkins is the most recent winner having won the MSCS event there on August 6.

Also on display Saturday: Modifieds, super stocks and bombers.

Paragon Speedway

As was the case with all other sprint car events last Saturday, Paragon Speedway rained out but is slated to return to action this Saturday.

With last Saturday nights cancellation there was no change in the tight points race that has Josh Cunningham leading Andrew Prather by just one point while defending track champion Jake Scott sits in third place just 28 points back.

Due to predicted wet weather on Saturday, August 13 the Must See Racing Sprint Series event at Anderson Speedway has been cancelled.

Weekend Preview (August 12-14)

Friday, August 12

Bloomington Speedway

There are just three events left for the Fastenal 410 sprint cars at Bloomington Speedway in 2016 and the battle between Jeff Bland Jr. and Brady Short continues to be one of the most closely contested track championship races in the state.

After picking up the win last weekend, Jeff Bland Jr. took the top position in points. He now leads by five points over the defending track champion Short while Jordan Kinser sits in third, 75 points behind the top spot.

The 305 RaceSaver sprint cars are also locked in a tight battle with Jared Fox holding a narrow eight point lead over second place Luke Bland.

Super stocks and modifieds will also be in action this Friday night.

Saturday, August 13

Tri-State Speedway (Cancelled)

Non-wing sprint cars will be back in action in Haubstadt on Saturday night for the first time since Indiana Sprint Week when TSS hosts the Midwest Sprint Car Series for the Hoosier Sprint Nationals.

Brady Short currently leads the MSCS standings by just 12 points over Brandon Morin as the series enters a double header weekend of action.

Carson Short won the most recent race in Haubstadt picking up his first ever USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car win during Indiana Sprint Week.

UMP modifieds and MMSA mini-sprints will join the sprint cars on Saturday evening.

Lincoln Park Speedway (Cancelled)

Sprints will be in action on Saturday evening in Putnamville where AJ Hopkins picked up his first Indiana sprint car win of the season last weekend.

Shane Cockrum continues to lead in the track championship standings by 53 points over Kevin Thomas Jr.

Saturday will be a regular show with modifieds, super stocks and bombers also on display.

Paragon Speedway (Cancelled)

Sprint cars return at Paragon Speedway on Saturday after taking last weekend off. Saturday will be the Johnson Memorial and will pay $1,400 to the winner.

As is the case at Bloomington, the battle for the track championship in Paragon is a closely contested battle with three drivers in the mix. Josh Cunningham currently leads by just one point over Andrew Prather with three races remaining. Defending track champion Jake Scott, who has five wins this season, sits 28 points behind.

Saturday night is half price night for all card holding HARF members.

Anderson Speedway (Cancelled)

The Must See Racing Sprint Series will make its final trip into Indiana on Saturday night when they take on Anderson Speedway.

Jimmy McCune has a large lead in the series standings entering Saturday nights action.

Thunder roadsters, legends and figure 8's will also be in action alongside the sprint cars.

Sunday, August 14

Terre Haute Action Track (Cancelled)

To finish out the weekend the Midwest Sprint Car Series (MSCS) will travel to the always fast Terre Haute Action Track on Sunday evening.

Sunday's "Spring Fling" event is a make-up event from May that was postponed due to rain. The winner will take home $3,000 while UMP modifieds will also be on display to complement the MSCS sprint cars.

Chase Stockon won the most recent sprint car race at the famed track during Indiana Sprint Week.
