Elliott and three others passed away in October after the plane they were traveling in crashed as they flew to South Carolina for a Notre Dame football game.

Last year's Indiana Sprint Week event at the track was hampered by rain and could not be resumed until the evening prior to the start of the Sprint Car Smackdown later in the year. Chris Windom picked up the win in that makeup race.

Bryan Clauson and Kevin Thomas Jr. have dominated at the track in 2016 during weekly action, both racking up two wins a piece while New Mexico's Josh Hodges is the only sprint car driver to tally a feature victory in Kokomo in 2016.

Dave Darland is the all-time wins leader at Kokomo Speedway as well as the all-time winningest driver in Indiana Sprint Week history with 18 victories.

In the series' most recent visit to the track it was Dave Darland getting the win on a frigid night in early April. In doing so, Darland extended his streak of at least one USAC national series wins to 24 straight seasons.

Former track champion Shawn Westerfeld has been victorious more than any other driver in 2016 in Lawrenceburg. Westerfeld has racked up three wins at the track this year.
