MSCS Mid-Season Recap

The Midwest Sprint Car Series event scheduled for this Saturday at Brownstown Speedway marks the halfway point for the 2017 MSCS season so we are taking a look back at what has happened so far.

Carson Short is your current series points leader entering the Sprint Spectacular on Saturday. Short has picked up one series win this season which came on May 13 at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt. The Marion, Illinois native has finished in the top ten in every event thus far and finished in the top five in all but one event.

Brady Short trails Carson Short in the points standings by just 13 points. Like the points leader, Brady Short's consistency has put him in the position he is in. Short has finished in the top five in each event with an average finishing position of third. If he can maintain that pace there is a good chance that he will pick up his third consecutive MSCS championship at season's end.

Brandon Morin and Kyle Cummins are also still in the hunt for the 2017 MSCS championship as they sit third and fourth in the standings respectively. Morin has picked up three top ten finishes including a third place finish at Tri-State Speedway on May 13. Meanwhile, Cummins has struggled at times this season but the four time series champ has still managed to rack up a pair of top five finishes and only sits 76 points behind Carson Short in the standings.

Chase Stockon has tallied 2 series victories in 2017

Chase Stockon has won the last two series events, both in Haubstadt. Other feature winners include AJ Hopkins, Chris Windom and Thomas Meseraull. None of which are running the full series schedule in 2017.

Saturday will be the ninth scheduled event of the season for the MSCS. The series has completed six of the scheduled events so far in 2017 with events in Terre Haute and Montpelier being rained out in late April and early May.

After Saturday the series will move into the second half of its season which will include two visits to Lincoln Park Speedway, five to Tri-State Speedway and a trip to Shadyhill Speedway in the northern part of the state.
